Installation FAQ

How do I install on macOS if it says "Unidentified Developer"?

Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security. Scroll down and click "Open Anyway". Alternatively, run xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /path/to/1990WebArchive.app in Terminal.

Can I run this on Linux without root privileges?

Yes. The AppImage is fully self-contained and does not require sudo. Simply make it executable with chmod +x 1990WebArchive.AppImage and run it.

Why is the installer larger than 100MB?

The client bundles a lightweight Chromium-based renderer, historical CSS/JS polyfills, and offline documentation to ensure accurate retro-web reproduction without external dependencies.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once installed, the client can operate fully offline. You can sync archived pages to the cloud when connected, but core functionality requires no internet.
