AeroVance Successfully Deploys Project Orion Phase 1 Constellation

HOUSTON, TX — October 14, 2024 — AeroVance Aerospace Corp today announced the successful deployment and initial operational checkout of Phase 1 of the Project Orion constellation. The mission marks a significant milestone in the company's mission to deliver high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity to underserved regions across the globe.

The constellation phase comprises 42 advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, launched aboard AeroVance's proprietary Ares-V heavy-lift vehicle from the Spaceport America facility in New Mexico. All payload components achieved nominal orbit insertion parameters, with intersatellite links established within 15 minutes of deployment.

A New Era in Global Connectivity

Project Orion represents AeroVance's most ambitious commercial program to date. Designed to complement existing terrestrial infrastructure, the constellation utilizes proprietary phased-array antenna technology and optical crosslinks to create a resilient mesh network capable of delivering gigabit-class speeds from orbit.

Looking Ahead: Phase 2 and Beyond

With Phase 1 successfully operational, AeroVance has confirmed that production has already begun on the Phase 2 payload, which will expand coverage to polar regions and increase network redundancy. Phase 2 is scheduled for launch in mid-2025, pending final regulatory approvals.

Service partners, including three major telecommunications providers and two humanitarian organizations, have already signed agreements to utilize the Orion network for backhaul connectivity and disaster response communications.
