About This Collection
Before the modern web standardized file sharing, academic institutions relied on FTP, Gopher, and anonymous directory listings to distribute research, software, and educational materials. This collection represents a coordinated preservation effort across 14 time zones, recovering data from decommissioned university servers, NSFNET backbone mirrors, and early internet exchange points.
All files are rendered in their original directory structure. Binary archives have been indexed and made searchable via our optical character recognition pipeline. Researchers may request emulated Gopher/FTP client access through our API.
