Automotive DIY provides information, tools, and community support for educational and do-it-yourself purposes only.

• Voluntary Assumption: You voluntarily assume all risks associated with automotive repair, maintenance, and modification, including but not limited to injury, death, property damage, and vehicle malfunction.
• No Professional Advice: Our guides and tools are not a substitute for professional mechanical expertise. If you are unsure about any procedure, consult a certified mechanic.
• Limitation of Liability: Automotive DIY shall not be held liable for any damages or injuries resulting from the use of our products, guides, or services. You use our resources at your own risk.
• Modifications: Modifications made based on our content may affect vehicle warranty, insurance coverage, and legal compliance. It is your responsibility to verify local laws and manufacturer terms.

3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Proper PPE is mandatory for all automotive tasks. The following is a baseline requirement:

• Eye Protection: ANSI-rated safety glasses or goggles must be worn when grinding, drilling, spraying chemicals, or working under the hood.
• Hand Protection: Mechanic gloves resistant to oils, cuts, and abrasions. Heat-resistant gloves for exhaust work.
• Footwear: Steel-toed boots or shoes with slip-resistant soles and good ankle support.
• Respiratory: NIOSH-approved respirators or masks when working with brake dust, fiberglass, paints, or solvents.
• Hearing: Ear protection when using high-decibel power tools.

4. Tool Safety Standards

All tools purchased through Automotive DIY are tested for quality and safety. However, safe usage depends on the operator:

• Inspection: Inspect tools before every use. Do not use cracked, damaged, or modified tools.
• Intended Use: Use tools only for their intended purpose. Never use a wrench as a hammer or a screwdriver as a chisel.
• Electrical Tools: Ensure power tools are unplugged before changing bits. Check cords for fraying. Use GFCI outlets in damp environments.
• Calibration: Torque wrenches must be calibrated regularly. Never store them under tension.
• Hydraulic Equipment: Jacks and lifts must be rated for your vehicle's weight. Never exceed the Working Load Limit (WLL).

5. Chemical & Fluid Safety

Automotive fluids are hazardous. Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for any chemical product.

• Storage: Store chemicals in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from ignition sources and out of reach of children.
• Disposal: Never pour used oil, coolants, or solvents down drains or on the ground. Recycle fluids at designated facilities.
• Spill Response: Keep absorbent materials and spill kits available. Wear PPE when cleaning spills.
• Ventilation: Always work in well-ventilated areas when using paints, cleaners, or adhesives. Use fans or exhaust systems.

6. Vehicle Lifting & Support

Falling vehicles are the leading cause of fatal DIY accidents. Strict adherence to lifting protocols is required.

• Jacking Points: Only lift at manufacturer-designated jacking points. Consult your vehicle manual.
• Jack Stands: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use rated jack stands on solid ground.
• Stability: Ensure the vehicle is in Park (or gear), parking brake is engaged, and wheels are chocked before lifting.
• Height: Lift only as high as necessary for the task.
• Two-Person Rule: Heavy components (engines, transmissions) require assistance and proper lifting equipment.

7. Battery & Electrical Safety

• Disconnect: Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on electrical systems or under the hood.
• Hybrid/Electric: High-voltage systems in HEVs and EVs are lethal. Do not attempt repairs on orange high-voltage cables unless certified. Automotive DIY does not recommend DIY repairs on HV systems.
• Short Circuits: Avoid metal tools near battery terminals. Remove jewelry that could cause short circuits.
• Charging: Follow manufacturer instructions for battery chargers. Never charge a frozen battery.

8. Community Guidelines

Our forums and social channels promote safe practices. Violations may result in account suspension.

• No Dangerous Advice: Do not post instructions that bypass safety mechanisms or encourage unsafe modifications.
• Respect Expertise: Acknowledge limits. If a task exceeds your skill level, ask for professional help.
• Report Hazards: If you see a guide or comment promoting unsafe behavior, use the report function.
• Accuracy: Ensure posted information is accurate and up-to-date for the specific vehicle model.

9. Incident Reporting

If you experience an injury, accident, or product failure while using Automotive DIY tools or following our guides, please report it immediately.
