Policy Amendments & Version Control
Effective as of October 24, 2024 | Governs all modifications to Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Archive Usage Guidelines.
Scope of Amendments
1990 Web Archive reserves the right to update, modify, or amend any portion of its governing policies, including but not limited to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Content Submission Guidelines, and API Access Agreements. Amendments may address technological evolution, regulatory compliance, archival standards, or service enhancements.
Note: All amendments are treated as version-controlled documents. Previous iterations remain accessible through our public legal archive for transparency and historical reference.
Amendment Workflow
Policy changes follow a structured revision pipeline to ensure accuracy, legal compliance, and community alignment:
- Drafting & Review: Legal and archival teams propose changes alongside technical impact assessments.
- Public Preview: Major amendments are published as draft versions with a minimum 30-day comment period.
- Finalization: Approved amendments are timestamped, cryptographically signed, and deployed.
- Version Indexing: Each update is logged with a semantic version number (e.g., v2.4.1 → v2.5.0).
Notification & Consent
Users will be notified of policy amendments through the following channels:
- Direct email to registered account holders for material changes
- Platform-wide banner notifications for 14 consecutive days
- Updates to the public
/legalendpoint and changelog feed
Continued use of the 1990 Web Archive platform following the effective date of an amendment constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. Users who do not consent may request account archival or deletion per our Data Retention Policy.
