📜 About the Angelfire Collection

Angelfire.com launched in February 1996 as one of the first free web hosting services, enabling millions to publish personal homepages without technical barriers. The platform peaked in the late 1990s before transitioning to paid models and eventual shutdown in 2002.

The 1990 Web Archive began systematic recovery in 2001 using cached snapshots, Wayback Machine mirrors, and direct submissions from former users. Our methodology includes:

HTML structure normalization without modern CSS injection
Asset recovery (GIFs, MIDI, framesets, guestbook databases)
Metadata tagging by era, community, and technical stack
Guestbook message preservation with original timestamps
