MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) was the backbone of early web audio. Before streaming became viable, websites embedded .mid files to play background music directly through the browser's built-in synthesizer or sound card.
These tracks range from simple 3-tone loops to complex 16-channel orchestral arrangements, often composed using trackers like FastTracker II, ProTracker, or Sound Forge. Many were original compositions; others were faithful renditions of popular music from the era.
