Why Account Security Matters
Your MarketFlow account is the gateway to your purchases, sales, payment methods, and personal information. A compromised account can lead to unauthorized transactions, lost listings, and identity theft. By following industry-standard security practices, you protect not only yourself but also the millions of users in our marketplace community.
Over 80% of marketplace breaches result from weak or reused passwords. Enabling two-factor authentication reduces account takeover risk by 99.9%.
Create Unbreakable Passwords
Your password is the first line of defense. A strong, unique password significantly reduces the risk of brute-force attacks and credential stuffing.
- Use at least 12 characters (16+ recommended)
- Combine uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
- Avoid personal info (birthdays, pet names, addresses)
- Never reuse passwords across MarketFlow and other platforms
- Use a reputable password manager to generate & store complex passwords
password123, qwerty, admin, [your-username]2025, and sequential keyboard patterns are frequently cracked by automated tools.
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
MFA adds a critical second layer of security. Even if your password is stolen, attackers cannot access your account without the second factor.
- Go to Account Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication
- Choose an authentication method:
Authenticator App
Recommended. Uses TOTP codes (Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator). Works offline and is phishing-resistant.
Hardware Security Key
Maximum security. YubiKey or similar FIDO2 keys protect against SIM-swapping and phishing attacks.
SMS / Voice Call
Convenient but less secure. Vulnerable to SIM-swapping. Use only as a backup or temporary measure.
After enabling MFA, securely store your backup recovery codes in an offline location. You will need these if you lose access to your primary device.
Spot & Avoid Phishing Scams
Scammers often impersonate MarketFlow to steal credentials or trick you into sending money. Stay vigilant:
- 🔍 Verify sender email addresses: Official emails only come from @marketflow.com
- 🔗 Hover over links before clicking to check the actual destination URL
- 🚫 Never enter login credentials on unrequested login pages
- 💬 Buyers/sellers should communicate only through MarketFlow's secure messaging system
- 📞 MarketFlow will never ask for your password, 2FA codes, or full payment card details via phone or chat
"Your account will be suspended in 24 hours unless you verify your payment method now." This is a common urgency tactic. Always check your account dashboard directly instead of clicking links in messages.
Manage Login Sessions & Devices
Regularly review where your account is active to detect unauthorized access early.
- Navigate to Account Settings → Security → Active Sessions
- Review the list of devices, locations, and IP addresses
- Click "Log out of unknown devices" for anything unrecognized
- Enable "Notify me of new logins" for real-time alerts
Always log out of shared or public computers. Avoid saving your login credentials on devices you don't fully control.
Control Privacy & Account Settings
Minimize your digital footprint by adjusting visibility and data sharing preferences:
- Set your profile to Private if you don't want your purchase history visible to other users
- Limit email notifications to only essential alerts
- Review connected third-party apps and revoke unnecessary permissions
- Use a dedicated email address for marketplace accounts to reduce spam and data correlation
What to Do If Your Account Is Compromised
If you suspect unauthorized access, act immediately:
- Change your password using a known secure device
- Enable MFA if it wasn't already active
- Log out of all sessions from Security Settings
- Review recent activity for unauthorized purchases or listing changes
- Contact Support via the in-app help center or security@marketflow.com
- Update payment methods and consider placing a fraud alert with your bank if financial data was exposed
Our security team operates 24/7. Eligible transactions are covered under our protection programs. We will never ask you to verify your account by sending money or sharing OTP codes.
