Introduction

The Daily Pulse is committed to the highest standards of journalistic ethics. This policy outlines the principles that guide our reporting, editing, and publishing practices. We believe that a free and independent press is essential to democracy, and that public trust is earned through consistent, transparent, and responsible journalism.

All journalists, editors, contributors, and staff at The Daily Pulse are expected to adhere to these guidelines. Violations will be reviewed by our Ethics Committee and may result in editorial correction, formal reprimand, or termination depending on severity.

Accuracy & Verification

Accuracy is the cornerstone of credible journalism. Every fact, statistic, quote, and attribution must be rigorously verified before publication.

• Multiple Sources: Claims must be corroborated by at least two independent sources whenever possible.
• Documentary Evidence: We prioritize original documents, official records, and verifiable data over anonymous claims.
• Context & Nuance: Stories must be presented with appropriate context. Omitting critical background that changes the meaning of a fact is prohibited.
• Fact-Checking: All major stories undergo mandatory fact-checking by a dedicated editorial desk before publication.

Independence & Impartiality

The Daily Pulse operates independently of political parties, corporate interests, and external pressures. Our reporting is driven by newsworthiness, not narrative convenience.

Journalists must maintain professional distance from sources. While building relationships is necessary for reporting, personal friendships or financial ties that could bias coverage must be disclosed to editors.

Conflict of Interest

Employees must disclose any personal, financial, or political interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their reporting.

• Staff cannot publish content about organizations or individuals in which they, their spouses, or immediate family members have financial stakes.
• Acceptance of gifts, free travel, hospitality, or perks from sources or subjects of coverage is strictly prohibited.
• Contributors and guest writers must disclose affiliations that may relate to the topics they cover.

Corrections & Transparency

Mistakes happen. How we handle them defines our integrity.

• Prompt Corrections: Substantive errors will be corrected as soon as they are identified. Online articles will include a "Corrected" timestamp and a brief explanation.
• Clarifications: Misleading phrasing or omitted context will be clarified without downplaying the original error.
• Transparency: We will never hide or delete corrections. All changes to published content are logged and accessible to readers.
• Reader Feedback: We welcome and publish substantive reader critiques that are factual and respectful.

Privacy & Data Protection

We respect the privacy of individuals while balancing the public's right to know.

• Victims & Vulnerable Subjects: We will not identify sexual assault survivors, minors involved in sensitive cases, or individuals whose exposure poses a direct threat to their safety.
• Private Data: Information obtained through hacking, unauthorized surveillance, or illegal means will not be published.
• Reader Data: Subscriber information is encrypted and never sold to third parties. We comply with GDPR, CCPA, and applicable data protection laws.

Fairness & Respect

Journalism serves the public, not a particular ideology. We strive for balanced reporting that gives subjects a meaningful opportunity to respond.

• Right of Reply: Individuals or organizations substantially criticized in our reporting must be contacted for comment prior to publication.
• Inclusive Language: We use respectful, precise language that avoids stereotypes, dehumanization, or unnecessary graphic detail.
• Graphic Content: Violent, disturbing, or explicit imagery will only be published when essential to the story, with appropriate warnings and editorial justification.

Advertising & Sponsorship Boundaries

Clear separation between editorial and commercial content is non-negotiable.

Advertising departments have no editorial authority. Sales teams may not dictate story selection, tone, or prominence. Any perceived overlap will be escalated to the Managing Editor.

Whistleblower & Source Protections

We recognize the critical role of whistleblowers in exposing wrongdoing. Our commitment to source protection is absolute.

• Encryption & Secure Channels: We provide verified, encrypted communication tools for confidential sources.
• Legal Defense: The Daily Pulse will defend journalists legally when subpoenaed to reveal confidential sources, consistent with shield laws and journalistic standards.
• Anonymous Sourcing: Anonymous sources are used only when information is newsworthy, cannot be obtained publicly, and is verified by editorial leadership.
