To rent any tool from Automotive DIY, you'll need a valid driver's license, a credit or debit card for the rental deposit, and you must be at least 18 years old. For high-value items over $50/day (such as tire changers or compression testers), we also require a proof of address and a minimum 30-day rental history on file.
Rental rates are charged per 24-hour period starting from the time of pickup. We offer daily, weekly, and monthly rates, with discounts for longer rental periods. A weekly rental is always cheaper than 7 individual daily rates — typically 30-40% savings. Monthly rentals save up to 50%. All rates include basic insurance coverage.
Yes! You can extend your rental through the app, website, or by calling our support line. Extensions are subject to tool availability, so we recommend requesting an extension at least 4 hours before your original return time. Extension rates are the same as your original daily rate. If the tool is needed by another customer, we'll offer a comparable replacement tool at no extra charge.
Don't worry — our rental insurance covers normal wear and tear and accidental damage during the rental period. If a tool malfunctions, contact our support line immediately and we'll arrange a replacement tool delivery or refund. You're only responsible for damage caused by misuse or negligence, such as using the wrong tool for the job or exceeding rated specifications.
We offer free delivery within a 15-mile radius of any rental center for orders over $25/day. For longer distances or overnight shipping, standard shipping rates apply. We also offer free scheduled pickup — just contact us when you're done with the tool and we'll collect it from your address. Delivery and pickup times are typically within 2-4 hours of scheduling.
A refundable security deposit is required for all tool rentals. The deposit amount varies based on the tool's value — typically 50-100% of the tool's retail price. The deposit is held on your credit card and released within 3-5 business days after the tool is returned in good condition. Premium members can waive the deposit entirely.
We understand projects can take longer than expected. We offer a 2-hour grace period with no additional charge. After that, hourly rates apply at 25% of your daily rate per hour. If a tool is returned more than 24 hours late, it's converted to a full additional day. Consistent late returns may affect your rental privileges, but we always prefer to work with you rather than penalize you.
Absolutely. Every tool is professionally inspected, calibrated (where applicable), and sanitized between each rental. Precision tools like torque wrenches, dial gauges, and scan tools come with a calibration certificate valid for 90 days. We also provide a quick-start guide with every rental to ensure you're using the tool correctly and safely.
